Idiazabal Cheese Tour

Welcome to the land of Wine, Honey and Cheese. This full-day tour offers the chance to visit local farmhouses called caseríos and enjoy artisan cheeses. Give in to your senses as you venture into tranquil corners of the Basque Country. Great for families. Idaizabal Cheese is produced using the milk from the Latxa sheep an autoctonous race that is acclimated to the local climate, seasoned with salt from the salinas de añana and served traditionally with bread, quince jam, walnuts and honey. Local producers honor traditional methods of cheesemaking passed down from generations. This full-day tour includes tastings of local products produced using traditional methods. Visit a typical caserio, or traditional Basque farmhouse and learn how they make cheese and other dairy products. For kids or animal lovers we can also arrange for the farmers to demonstrate a sheepdog demonstration working with a flock of sheep, interaction with farm animals and of course samples of local products and artisan cheeses. |
