Gastro Passport: Sidra & Cheese

As a kid one of our favorite family snacks was freshly cut sweet apples and a creamy slice of cheese. This apples and cheese experience is the epitome of this wonderful combination, showcasing local farm to table products and a hearty traditional meal

Gipuzkoa is no stranger to good food, with the gastronomic mecca of San Sebastian nearby, true foodie lovers can also venture into the interior province of Gipuzkoa to learn where the delectable ingredients of local gastronomy come from.

Start with a traditional apple orchard and museum where you will learn about the hundreds of years of apple growing tradition and sample the local varieties of cider, apple liquor and fresh apple juice.

Then visit a museum dedicated to idaizabal cheese and a traditional queseria where local cheese is produced.

Finish off your day with a traditional meal in a Basque sidreria to sample the goods from a plate of local cheese and membrillo or quince jelly, to bacalao, steak, all the cider you can drink and other local specialties.
