Margaret is the co-founder of Travel Basque Country. Originally from San Francisco California she has lived in the Basque Country for over 10 years. Prior to starting her own business she spent nearly a decade working in PR and communications for technology companies. A foodie at heart, she enjoys taking visitors around to discover the “other side” of the city. She speaks fluent English and Spanish and just enough Basque to get a chuckle from the locals

Interested in discovering the in’s and out’s of Bilbao with a twist? Or perhaps you simply want to practice your English or Spanish outside of the classroom?

This is not your typical pintxo tour. We’ll take you to our favorite spots and chat about the history of Bilbao and the Basque Country.

From craft beer and cod fish, to jamon and chorizo a la sidra, we’ll visit a variety of bars, bakeries and pastry shops to sample their goods. Want to try award-winning tortilla de patata? Ready to sample different kinds of bacalao? Or maybe  txipirones en su tinta? Brave enough to have some caracoles?

The walking route will take you from the City Hall, to the Casco Viejo, Gran Via and more. We'll point out city landmarks like the Alhongida, Guggenheim, Mercado de la Ribeira, Puente de San Antón or San Mames Soccer Stadium.

Walking tour is conducted in English and includes local food tastings and beverages (wine, water, beer or soda). Depending on group size we will arrange for one or more local guides.

And if you have already seen the city or are looking for some really local digs where few tourists venture, we can also explore the outskirts of Bilbao from Artxanda and Barakaldo to Portugalete and Getxo.

Choose our regular tour or the fancy gourmet tour that includes visits to some of Bilbao’s finest establishments, hand sliced jamon iberico, award winning local cheese plates, premium wines, cava and a souvenir gift.

*Let us know if you have any allergies or special requests, we will do our best to accommodate.
